Flagpole Dedication
December 2011

Members of the local VFW and staff of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs were on hand recently to celebrate the dedication of our new flag pole. The American flag was provided by U.S. Representative John R. Shimkus (IL District 19), a native of Collinsville. Prior to our dedication, this flag flew over the State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois.

Cedarhurst Honors Resident Veterans
December 11, 2011

Cedarhurst of Collinsville honored their Resident Veterans as well as the spouses of Veterans with a commemorative plaque to be placed in the lobby. The plaque is inscribed:

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free. “ – Ronald Reagan

Additionally, each Veteran received an Certificate of Appreciation for their service.

Cedarhurst Residents Travel to see “Way of Lights”
November 2011

Residents of Cedarhurst loaded up in the van and took off to enjoy the “Way of Lights” at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine. This event has been a family tradition since the 1970’s. Jack Frost was definitely nipping at resident’s noses this evening, but who could resist hot cocoa and caroling with friends and neighbors while enjoying Christmas lights?

Cedarhurst Benefit for CAMA Food Pantry
November 9, 2011

Cedarhurst of Collinsville hosted a Wine & Cheese Social and Food Drive to benefit the Collinsville Area Ministerial Association (CAMA) Food Pantry & Helping Hands Ministries, on Wednesday, November 9th.  Residents, their families and guests from the community enjoyed live entertainment – including some dancing, a variety of cheeses, hors d’oeuvres as well as a selection of both California and other regional wines.

Several local businesses made contributions of products, gift certificates, baskets and other items to be raffled off for the Food Pantry. A highlight was wine signed and autographed from Trout Street Wines, owned by Marc Fletcher (son of Cedarhurst Resident Violet Fletcher and the late great CHS legend, Vergil Fletcher).

Thanks to the generosity of our residents and guests, Cedarhurst will be presenting a check as well as nice offering of non-perishable food items to the CAMA Food Pantry for use this holiday season.  Cedarhurst will continue to collect non-perishable food, personal hygiene and monetary donations through December 15, 2011.

Halloween at Cedarhurst Assisted Living
October 31, 2011

Cedarhurst of Collinsville held a Halloween Party with family and children from the local community, that included live entertainment from Bob Tyler, face painting, fortune telling, cookie decorating and most importantly – door-to-door trick or treating with our Residents! The kids had a great time as did the Residents!

Cedarhurst Opens New Location

On July 25, Cedarhurst opened in Collinsville. Cedarhurst is owned by a local investment company, Metro Asset Group, headed by Joshua Jennings of St. Louis. The property is managed by Frontier Management of Oregon. "It has been very exciting to be involved in the start up of this great community" said Carla Riva of Cedarhurst. "We had a great turn out for our Grand Opening Celebration. I would like to thank the community for all of their support. I look forward to being part of the success of Cedarhurst" said Riva.
